In 2025, the group celebrates the twelfth anniversary of its current name "Big Al & The Jokers"!
It all started when "Muravei" (Alexander Sircov 1958 - 2024) gathered young musicians - rock'n'roll music enthusiasts - and created the group "Keksi". Time passed, all kinds of changes occurred, the group name changed, and the leader of the band became the keyboard player, composer and singer, talented Latvian musician Romāns Vendiņš.
“Big Al & The Jokers” consist of eight talented musicians: Romans Vendiņš, Zintis Žvarc, Sandris Skeranskis, Eduards Raubiško, Juris Skrajāns, Raitis Aukšmuksts, Pēteris Liepiņš, Algirdas Šuminskas, as well as sound engineer Sergeys Laletins and the band's manager Rafails Balkins.
Over the course of twenty years of collaboration, the musicians have created a large and mixed repertoire. This is one of the rare Latvian bands that performs in such a large line-up with a full brass section, performing interpretations of popular swing, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll compositions. The band has participated in countless music festivals with great success and great reviews: Nida Jazz, Blues Nights in Varniai, Druskininkai Jazz, Klaipeda Jazz, New Wave, Slaviansky Bazar 2014, 34th International Music Festival in Ankara, Alanya Jazz Festival, Klaipeda Jazz 2020, Polish Boogie Festival 2022, etc.
Special attention should be paid to the long-term cooperation with the unique Lithuanian musician Algirdas Šuminskas, aka "Big Al", without whom the performances of the band "Big Al & The Jokers" are unthinkable today. Thanks to Algirdas, the band's current repertoire includes many popular jazz compositions.
Over many years, the opening of the spring concert season traditionally includes "Spring rendezvous with the group Big Al & The Jokers", where the musicians will share with the audience their positive emotions and a charge of sparkling energy, taking the audience on the known and less known paths of the group's creative ability.
There will also be stories that reveal more than one piquant detail of the group's private and artistic life. The audience, regardless of age, taste and mood, will be greeted by a "live", professional and cheerful musical performance of the group.
